Polk County Jail Roster Overview

The Polk County Sheriff's Office calls its public roster the Jail Information Search. It is free, needs no login, and posts booking information for people held in the county jail system. The page carries a strong disclaimer. Information is posted for reference only, it changes quickly, it may contain errors, and an arrest does not mean a conviction. The Sheriff's Office also says the data should not be used for legal action, and that case outcomes must come from the Clerk of the Court.

The county roster covers pretrial detainees and people serving short county sentences. It does not list sentenced state prisoners, federal inmates, or immigration detainees. Once a person is sentenced to a Florida prison, the booking drops off the county roster and the record moves to the state locator. Federal prisoners and ICE detainees never appear on the county roster at all, so those searches start in a different system.

How to Use the Polk County Inmate Roster

The roster lives on the Sheriff's Jail Information Search page. A last name is enough to begin. The tool offers three routes: a name search, a booking-date search, and an alias search by booking year.

1. Open the Jail Information Search and choose the Name Search tab.
2. Enter the last name, and add a first name if the last name is common. For a name with an apostrophe, type two apostrophes, as in O''Keefe.
3. Leave "Current inmates only" unchecked to reach older bookings, or check "Show AKA names" to include aliases. To search by arrest date, switch to the Booking Date tab.
4. Click the booking number in the results to open the profile, which shows the booking photo, charges, bond flags, and the jail location code.

When the online search does not answer the question, several other channels do. The automated inmate information line at 863-457-3738 runs around the clock. A representative answers at 863-292-3400 for booking and call-center questions. The 24/7 public window at the Winter Haven processing center handles in-person questions, and a public-records request to the Sheriff's records unit reaches booking files that are not posted online. For a case outcome rather than custody status, the Clerk of the Court is the source.

Note: Results are capped at the first 1,000 matches, so a common last name should be paired with a first name to narrow the list.

What a Polk County Inmate Profile Shows

Each result links to a profile keyed to the booking number. The profile opens with the booking photo and then lists the booking details. Two bond flags appear, Bond Eligible and Ready for Bond, and the charges load below with their own bond fields. The profile does not show a housing pod, a court date, or a full court outcome, and booking photos for current inmates are covered on the jail roster mugshots page.

Finding County, State, and Federal Inmates

The county roster is only one of several custody systems, and each holds a different group. Pretrial and short-sentence inmates are on the Polk County roster. Sentenced felons move to the Florida Department of Corrections locator, which covers state prison and supervision and refreshes weekly. Federal prisoners use the Bureau of Prisons locator, and immigration detainees use the ICE Online Detainee Locator. The VINELink service can send release and transfer alerts for Florida custody.

The systems use different identifiers, which helps confirm you are in the right one. The county roster keys records to a booking number, while the state locator uses a six-character DC number. Federal searches accept a BOP register number, and the ICE locator needs an exact A-number or full biographical details. If a county search returns no result and the person was recently sentenced, the state locator is the next stop, because the county roster drops sentenced inmates after transfer.

The county jail system runs from four Sheriff's facilities. Two of them house inmates, while the others handle book-in and release. Capacity is published for the system as a whole, rated at 2,576 beds, rather than for each building. Booking Process in Polk County

Booking is centered at the Sheriff's Processing Center, the former booking operation, at 7101 De Castro Road in Winter Haven. It runs 24 hours a day, every day, and has a public window where information can be obtained at any time. When a person is booked, the Intake and Records Bureau creates a hard file and a computer file, which is what feeds the public roster. A new arrest can take time to appear online, so the processing center is the live channel before the profile posts.

Fees attach early. The Sheriff's Office lists a $30 booking fee at intake, a $9 initial per-diem when a person is moved to housing, and a $2 daily per-diem after that. First appearance generally happens within 24 hours of arrest under Florida Rule of Criminal Procedure 3.130, and both county jails hold first-appearance court. Visitation Hours and Rules

Polk County uses Securus video visitation for inmates at both Central and South County jails. Friends and family schedule Anywhere video visits through Securus, and most inmates are allowed visits daily, with two Anywhere visits per week of 20 minutes each. Sessions cost $10 for 20 minutes, plus tax. Pre-adjudicated youth visit only in a separate afternoon window. Accounts are created at securustech.net or in the blue and white Securus app, the account name must match a photo ID, and approval can take up to 48 hours.

How to Contact a Polk County Inmate

Messages run through Smart Jail Mail kiosks in every housing unit, with citizen accounts at smartjailmail.com. A message costs 50 service credits, about $0.50, and a photo costs 100 credits, about $1.00. Indigent inmates receive two free messages each Saturday. Physical postal mail is not delivered directly to inmates; routine mail is scanned at an off-site address (PCSO-CO SC, inmate name and ID, PO Box 1848, Pinellas Park, FL 33780).

Legal mail is handled differently. It is marked as legal mail, opened in the inmate's presence, and sent to 2390 Bob Phillips Road in Bartow. Books must be paperback, sent directly from a bookseller such as Amazon with the original invoice, and addressed to Central County Jail with the inmate's name and booking number. The limit is two paperbacks plus one religious text per shipment.

Phone calls and video visits run through Securus rather than a county phone bank. A rejected book is held in the Central County Jail mailroom, the sender is notified, and after 14 days the Sheriff's Office disposes of it. Keeping the booking number handy speeds up every one of these channels, since mail, money, and visits all key off the inmate's name and booking number.

Commissary and Inmate Funds

Money for an inmate goes through Access Corrections, online or by phone at 866-345-1884, both available around the clock with a $300 daily limit. Lobby kiosks take cash, debit, or credit at the Central County Jail Annex (open 24 hours) and at South County Jail (7:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.). Online deposit fees run from $4.95 to $11.95 by amount, and phone fees run higher.
